Davison's Camp
Luxury camp in the Hwange National Park
Davison’s Camp is located in the northwestern part of Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park on the expansive Ngamo Plains, one of the country’s most wildlife-rich regions. The camp is named after Ted Davison, the first warden of Hwange National Park, whose dedication played a significant role in the development and long-term protection of this remarkable wilderness area. By staying at the camp, guests contribute to research and conservation initiatives supported by the Wilderness Collection, including elephant monitoring projects that use GPS-collared animals to better understand their movements and protect their habitat.
Accommodation at Davison's Camp
Davison’s Camp features nine spacious tented suites, all raised on wooden platforms, including one family suite designed for guests travelling together. Each tent offers an en-suite bathroom, comfortable beds, ceiling fans, inviting seating areas, Wi-Fi, and a private veranda overlooking the waterhole and the surrounding plains. The elegant interiors combine natural colours and locally inspired materials to create a peaceful and authentic safari atmosphere that blends seamlessly with the environment.
The open-plan main area is classically designed and includes a comfortable lounge, a stylish dining area, a bar, and a spacious viewing deck overlooking the waterhole. A swimming pool provides welcome relief during the warmer months, while the traditional campfire and boma create an inviting setting for memorable dinners beneath the African night sky.
Activities and tours at Davison's Camp
The camp’s outstanding location beside a year-round waterhole offers exceptional wildlife viewing throughout the year. During the dry season, large herds of elephants and buffalo gather here regularly, while the summer months attract antelope, giraffe, and predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and African wild dogs. The diverse habitats also make the area an excellent destination for birdwatching.
Activities include morning, afternoon, and night game drives as well as guided walking safaris led by experienced guides. Guests can also visit a nearby village and local school, providing an opportunity to gain insight into everyday life within the surrounding community.
