Family-friendly luxury camp in the Hwange National Park
Somalisa Acacia by African Bush Camps is located in the southern part of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe and is a small, family-friendly luxury tented camp in the heart of one of the country’s most renowned wilderness areas. Its location within the Hwange ecosystem provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing in a landscape of open savannahs, bushland, and both natural and man-made waterholes. The region is particularly famous for its large elephant population, which regularly visits the water sources around the camp.
Accommodation at Somalisa Acacia
The camp was specially designed for families and smaller private groups, offering a personal and intimate safari atmosphere. Somalisa Acacia features a total of four spacious safari tents: two family tents and two twin/double tents. The camp accommodates a maximum of twelve guests at a time. The tents are set on raised wooden platforms and each features a private bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, a private deck overlooking the wilderness, a fan, charging facilities, mosquito nets, and a cosy fireplace for cooler evenings.
The central area of the camp serves as a gathering place for meals, relaxation, and socialising with fellow guests. It includes an open lounge and dining area, a bar, and a small swimming pool. Particularly impressive is the pool’s location close to the elephant waterhole, allowing guests to relax while observing wildlife coming to drink.
An important element of the camp concept is its commitment to sustainable operations. Somalisa Acacia is powered by solar energy and uses environmentally conscious solutions to minimise its ecological footprint in this sensitive wilderness area. African Bush Camps is also involved in various conservation and community projects in the regions where its camps operate.
Activities and tours at Somalisa Acacia
Safari activities focus on the diverse wildlife of Hwange National Park. Guests can enjoy guided morning and afternoon game drives, offering opportunities to encounter elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Birdwatching, cultural visits to local communities, and special nature experiences for children are also part of the camp’s offerings. Younger guests can take part in a child-friendly programme featuring nature activities and educational experiences that introduce them to Africa’s wildlife in an engaging way.
