Somalisa Camp by African Bush Camps is located in a private concession in the southern part of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, one of the country’s most renowned wilderness areas. The surrounding landscape is characterised by open savannah plains, acacia woodlands and the typical Hwange waterholes, which attract large concentrations of wildlife, especially during the dry season. Somalisa places great emphasis on sustainable operations and has received recognition for its environmentally responsible approach. The camp uses solar power for its electricity supply and operates resource-efficient water treatment systems.
Accommodation at Somalisa Camp
African Bush Camps supports local projects in the Hwange region through its own foundation, focusing on education, community development and sustainable livelihoods. Initiatives include support for Mambanje Primary School, community gardens and local craft projects.
Guests are accommodated in seven spacious luxury tented suites, which have been designed to blend harmoniously into the natural surroundings. Each safari tent features a private bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, a private viewing deck, a fan, battery charging facilities and a traditional wood-burning stove for cooler evenings.
The central guest area of Somalisa Camp is set beneath shady acacia trees and includes a comfortable lounge, dining area, bar and an open fire pit. A swimming pool in the main area provides a refreshing retreat during the warmer hours of the day. A special attraction is the nearby elephant waterhole, where guests can often observe these impressive animals at close range. The waterhole has been designed to allow safe encounters between guests and wildlife while also providing an important water source for the animals.
Activities and tours at Somalisa Camp
Safari activities at Somalisa Camp focus on the diverse wildlife of Hwange National Park. In addition to traditional game drives, guests can enjoy guided bush walks, birdwatching and cultural experiences. The region is particularly famous for its large elephant herds but also offers excellent opportunities to spot buffalo, lions, leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs and various antelope species, including sable and roan antelope. Guests also have the option of spending a night at the Somalisa Sleep-Out – a separate outdoor sleeping area beneath the stars overlooking a nearby waterhole.
